Why Evening Reflection Matters

Evening reflection turns experience into learning. Instead of letting the day fade into memory, you slow down, ask key questions, and draw insights. Regularly doing this creates self-awareness, strengthens accountability, and keeps you aligned with your long-term goals.

The Core Questions (Based on Marshall Goldsmith’s Model)

  1. Did I do my best to set clear goals today?
  2. Did I do my best to make progress toward my goals today?
  3. Did I do my best to find meaning today?
  4. Did I do my best to be happy today?
  5. Did I do my best to build positive relationships today?
  6. Did I do my best to be fully engaged today?

These help you move from reaction to reflection, reinforcing what matters and recognising where you can improve.

Daily Questions: My Evening Reflection Routine

Before bed (just 10 minutes), I step through my routine:

  • I choose three small tasks I’ll feel good about finishing tomorrow.
  • I check in with morning exercise and meditation done, midday stretch or meditation, then the evening reflection.
  • I review my North Star principles: radical responsibility, continuous learning, helping the right clients, investing in health/family, acting from values.
  • I reaffirm the focus areas: relationships, learning community, health, mastery of LinkedIn/AI, financial freedom.
  • Then I ask my evening questions: Did I follow routines, help others be happy, stay engaged, remember the universe is OK, find three things I’m grateful for/learned/succeeded at, help my clients progress, and start fresh tomorrow.

Integrating NLP

NLP principles anchor the reflection: noticing energy and focus, recognising patterns, using state shifts and reframing, committing to next steps rather than replaying resentment.
This makes the routine not just habit, but growth strategy.
